TIANGUIS RESISTENTE (2022)

In 2021 some members of the LGBTI+ and queer community began to set up a small and informal market under a bridge, outside a metro station in the center of Mexico City. It is often difficult to find jobs in Mexico due to discrimination. According to the Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad, a research center for public policies, "in Mexico, six out of ten LGBT people consider that their sexual orientation has been an obstacle to accessing a job. Even when they get a job, 70% of LGBT Mexicans perceive that they do not receive the same treatment as their heterosexual peers."

That's why the market under the bridge has become a safe haven for this community, to work and to live, because they are together and they can better defend themselves against any attack. They sell clothes, sexual accessories, artisanal objects, and art during the day, and at night they also party, sometimes with DJs and live music. There they can be a bit more free.
