los valientes (2020-2021)

When boys and girls who, being minors, arrived alone in Spain, turn 18, administrations are no longer obliged to take care of them. In addition, the public housing resources are not sufficient and it is not easy to obtain the permit to live and work. For this reason, many young people end up on the street in very complex situations, far from their families whom they often miss and need. These situations affect their physical and mental health significantly and can be disastrous for their future.

Even so, these boys and girls try to support each other, create bonds and look for what any other person at their age would want: friendship, love, having fun, meeting new people, and trying new things. At the same time, they have to face the anguish and uncertainty of not knowing how to achieve a decent life in a country that they don't know.

This is the visual story of some of the 90 migrants who in 2020 were forced to survive on the street or occupy houses and apartments in Tarragona and other surrounding towns, in the region of Catalonia, Spain.

This work was exhibited in 2022 in the Nau Bostik, in Barcelona, Spain.
